INTEGRATED ARTS I

The iArts BFA is a Level I, direct entry program that emphasizes interdisciplinary creative practice as a collective mode of learning, preparing students for professional careers in the arts. You will have the opportunity to engage with a range of hands-on media and techniques in art and performance, while also learning about the histories and critical contexts of art and performance locally, nationally and internationally.

In addition to university entrance requirements, consideration for this program also requires a creative submission.

Structure of iArts BFA, Level I

iArts BFA, Level I is comprised of 30 units:

21 units are comprised of required courses focusing on project development, theoretical perspectives of arts in society, and practical courses taking place in theatres, studios, and lecture halls.

9 units are comprised of iArts elective modules or elective undergraduate courses from across the University.

IMPORTANT IARTS ENROLMENT INFORMATION:

WHMIS 1A00 is an online, non-credit Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Health and Safety course. It will teach you basic studio safety.

This course is a co-requisite for most Integrated Arts studio courses (i.e. IARTS 1RP3, 1RR3, 1BD3, etc.). If you have successfully completed WHMIS 1A00 during your first year of studies at McMaster University, you do not need to re-take WHMIS 1A00 in subsequent years if you take any additional courses that list WHMIS 1A00 as a co-requisite.

Important Note: When enrolling in courses in MOSAIC, please ensure that you add WHMIS 1A00 to your list of courses first as it is a co-requisite for most Level I iArts courses. Otherwise, you will receive a message stating that you have failed the requisite requirements for any course with a lab component.

WHMIS 1A00 must also be completed at the beginning of the fall term. Students can enrol via Mosaic during regular course enrolment and complete the module online through Avenue to Learn. More information can also be found here
